Description
A practical guide to over 25 different fruits and vegetables to grow in the garden, with over 100 tried and trusted, easy to follow recipes and tasty quick-cook dishes. Written by a husband and wife team, Martin and Jill Fish who are passionate about growing and eating fresh produce from their garden.
In their North Yorkshire garden their productive fruit and veg plot provides an abundance of tasty produce all year round. It is all put to good use: some eaten fresh and the rest stored or preserved.
A professional horticulturist, garden writer and broadcaster, Martin has been giving gardening talks for many years. For the past few years, Jill, a keen gardener and food writer has joined him for a joint talk called ‘Gardening on the Menu’. This book by the same title is a direct response to so many people asking, “When are you going to write a book?”
Martin has been growing vegetables since he was a teenager and he draws on his many years of practical experience to give easy to follow advice and tips on getting the best from your crops.
Jill loves food, especially when it involves fruit and vegetables picked fresh from their garden, and she shares a selection of her seasonal dishes, many of which have been family favourites for many years.
Martin’s love of gardening and Jill’s love of cooking with fresh garden produce make for the perfect combination in ‘Gardening on the Menu’.
About the authors: Jill Fish - After a career in teaching Jill joined Martin in their family business. A keen home cook and with three children to feed Jill relished cooking with the copious amounts of fruit and veg being produced from their garden. She has been a food writer and blogger for over ten years as a result of cooking her famous toffee apple pie for the editor of a garden magazine who was visiting their garden! He was so impressed he immediately offered her the job of cookery writer for the weekly magazine. Jill continues to write for websites and has relished sharing her favourite recipes in their new book.
Martin Fish - Martin started his career as an apprentice gardener on a parks department and for many years ran his own nursery. He has been writing about practical gardening for 25 years for several gardening publications. Martin broadcasts for BBC Radio Nottingham & BBC Radio York, solving listeners’ gardening questions and problems. Over the summer months Martin works at many Flower Shows giving talks and demonstrations. He is an RHS accredited judge and advisor for RHS Garden Harlow Carr. He’s never happier than when he’s sharing his passion for growing and gardening!
