Potato, Mayan Collection
Mayan potatoes are derived from ancient varieties growing wild in South America, some of which are over 7,000 years old. They have been
developed further in a Scottish breeding programme which balanced out
the differing growing climates of Peru and the UK. They have an excellent flavour and cook in a third less time than standard varieties - flavour and economy! The yield may not be the best but the taste certainly ompensates.
The collection includes:
Mayan Gold - This golden coloured gourmet potato has an unrivalled nutty flavour. Perfect for roasts, chips and crisping, Mayan Gold is already a first choice for many notable TV chefs for use in their own restaurants due to its unique and creamy flavour. The long, oval tubers are very attractive but don’t boil as tubers will quickly go to mush.
Mayan Queen - This high yielding variety was the second Mayan introduction and, again, is rated highly in taste tests and is a supermarket top of the range favourite. Perfect for roasting, baking and for wedges, Mayan Queen shows good disease resistance and has a deep yellow buttery flesh, a long oval shape and a pink blush.
Mayan Twlight - This very attractive red and white skinned potato has a deep yellow flesh with a sweet flavour. Best steamed, or hot and cold as salad potato, Mayan Twilight is definitely moreish, like all the Mayans. Very good disease resistance, particularly to scab.
30 tubers, 10 of each variety
