A top class 'soft neck' strain, being a vigorous grower, high yielder and very good keeper. Originally from south west France (but produced in Britain), it can be autumn- or spring-planted. Autumn planting gives the best green bulbs in June, known as 'wet garlic'. Enjoy its superb flavour raw or cooked in a host of recipes.
This purple 'hard neck' garlic originates from southern Ukraine. It gives strongly flavoured bulbs which are lovely roasted or added to stir fry dishes.
Closer to leeks than to true garlic, you will produce large bulbs up to 4in (10cm) across with jumbo-sized cloves. It has a mild, almost sweet flavour which can be appreciated if cloves are chopped into salads or roasted whole and served as a special vegetable.
The plump, pink cloves of this highly prized variety are arranged around the 'rocamboles' or flowering spikes. A very strong garlic, originally from south west France and central Spain. Considered a real delicacy when pickled.
